The best spy shots yet of the new Ducati 1199 Superbike:
There's an exhaust pipe loop where I would have expected to see a shock. And the exhaust cans are under the bike instead of under the tail.
The tank is very un-current Superbike looking. I love the way the fuel tanks are shaped on today's Ducati sportbikes. They're distinctive, Italian hot, and I like the long seating position on my 848Evo, which is the same as the 1098 and 1198 models. But I know some riders who will be much happier with more standard tank ergos, particularly if they are more accustomed to the Japanese sportbikes.
The guys at Hell for Leather compared the tank to that of the Diavel. I refuse to look that closely. (Please, Ducati, say at ain't so!!! *sob*)
And it may be just me, but the windscreen doesn't appear to be so tightly swept back and low to the tank.
The bike's rider area is small. The larger rider in the photos is 5'11" Danilo Petrucci. It may be the camo, and he's not quite at the level of "Ewock on a Landspeeder", but Danilo looks like he's riding his kid's moto.
The smaller guy is Troy Bayliss, who comes in at a more diminutive 5'8". He looks more comfortable. Then again, he's Troy Bayliss. Who could ride a Superbike comfortably around the track at-speed while half-asleep, chatting on a cell phone, and sitting backwards.
No word if Ducati is still considering calling the new machine the 1199 Xtreme. (That is painful just to type. Someone over there has had one too many energy drinks.)
